Arizona State women’s basketball defeats Jackson State in season opener
The Arizona State Sun Devils women’s basketball team opened their 2026-27 season with a dominant 84-41 victory over Jackson State at Desert Financial Arena. Despite an early surge by Jackson State, which included an 11-2 lead in the first quarter, Arizona State responded to control the game.
Heloisa Carrera and McKinna Brackens led the offensive effort, while freshman Averie Lower tied for the team high with 15 points, including five three-pointers. The Sun Devils' defensive performance limited Jackson State to 41 points, marking one of the team's lowest opponent scoring totals in recent seasons.
This victory marks the 14th non-conference win for head coach Molly Miller in her first two seasons. Miller, who led the program to an NCAA Tournament appearance last year, noted the importance of balancing offensive production with the defensive identity that defined her inaugural campaign.
