Alabama defeats East Carolina 48-10 in season opener

No. 13 Alabama opened their 2026 season with a 48-10 victory over East Carolina at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game was played under extreme heat, with heat indices exceeding 100 degrees, causing some spectators to leave and requiring intensive hydration protocols for players.

Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell made his first career start, recording 249 passing yards and 86 rushing yards with one rushing touchdown. While Russell showed dual-threat potential, coaches noted areas for improvement regarding his decision-making and physical protection. The Crimson Tide offense leaned heavily on the ground game, totaling 227 rushing yards and five touchdowns, including scores from Daniel Hill and freshman EJ Crowell.

Despite the blowout win, Alabama faced injury concerns in their backfield prior to the game, with running backs EJ Crowell and AK Dear managing various statuses. The team now prepares for their first SEC matchup against Kentucky.
