Colombia security operations result in mass arrests and strategic bombing

Colombian authorities have conducted large-scale security operations across Medellín, Antioquia, and Bogotá. In Medellín and the surrounding Antioquia region, a massive crackdown led by President Abelardo de la Espriella resulted in 135 to 149 arrests and 153 to 166 searches. The operations targeted criminal structures such as ‘La Roja’, which is linked to high-end jewelry and watch thefts. Notable detainees include Jacobo de Jesús Valenciano Yepes and Eddy Santiago Cuadros Yepes, both associated with organized crime. The regional offensive also included the deportation of 98 foreign citizens.

In Bogotá, ‘Operation KRATOS’ targeted criminal networks involved in extortion, kidnapping, and homicide, resulting in 172 arrests and 114 searches. Authorities seized firearms, grenades, and narcotics during these actions.

Additionally, President De la Espriella authorized a strategic military bombing against the Clan del Golfo in the Chocó department. This marks the sixth such bombing operation under his administration. In a separate development, Edinson Durán Ayala, alias ‘Eduardo’ or ‘Flecha’, a high-ranking member of the FARC dissidents, surrendered to justice following military pressure in the Catatumbo region.
