Italian Carabinieri intensify nationwide controls, seize drugs and detain migrants
Police forces across Italy stepped up random checks and road checkpoints in recent days. In Frosinone officials seized hashish during a venue inspection, while a high‑speed chase on the SS 131 near Pescara ended in a fatal crash and the arrest of the passenger. Carabinieri operations in Crotone, Modena, Livorno, Catania, Alatri, Camporotondo Etneo, San Pietro Clarenza and other towns resulted in the confiscation of drugs, weapons and illegal electronic devices, and in the detention of several irregular migrants and individuals with outstanding arrest warrants. The actions also targeted gender‑based violence, leading to 17 arrests in the Trapanese area, and disrupted organised robbery groups, including a gang that fled into a police car in Guastalla. Additional investigations uncovered stolen alcohol, mini‑phones of dubious origin and a hidden cache of narcotics in a kitchen in Catania. The combined efforts generated dozens of arrests, multiple seizures, and several administrative fines totaling over €13 000.
