Italian police intensify checks and border ops

Entities: French Police (Police Nationale) · Polizia di Stato · Ventimiglia · Slovenian frontier

Overview

Since early June 2026 Italian police, the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri have intensified raids, vehicle checks and venue inspections nationwide, seizing drugs, firearms and cash while issuing traffic fines. In July they disrupted a machete‑armed gang in Livorno, imposed mandatory expulsion orders on repeat irregular migrants in Sondrio and Treviso, and added an addendum to accelerate eligibility assessments for detainees at the Centre for Permanent Residence. Carabinieri road checks on 19 July in Verbano‑Cusio‑Ossola seized drugs and knives; further inspections in Portomaggiore on 15 July targeted folding‑knife carriers and small‑scale drug possession, and imposed a €500 forest‑cutting fine. On 24 July the State Police reinforced staffing in Macerata and Forlì‑Cesena and placed officers in immigration offices. Joint patrols seized cocaine in Città di Castello; the Ascoli Piceno questura expelled an Albanian national and detained a Russian and a Tunisian. In Genoa three Peruvian men were arrested for fraud and weapons charges, and in the Cremona‑Crema area seven removal orders followed public‑square disturbances. On 28 July police launched high‑impact checks in Bari and Siracusa provinces.

The same day high‑impact operations expanded to Bari, Noto, Genoa, Parma (Salsomaggiore Terme) and Terlizzi, inspecting over 500 people and 300 vehicles, issuing dozens of traffic‑violation reports, withdrawing three licences and seizing small hashish quantities. On 29 July border controls on the Slovenian frontier and at Ventimiglia inspected 25 830 individuals and 4 622 vehicles, identified more than 4 500 irregular migrants, arrested 128 people for facilitating illegal entry and turned back 750 migrants, with 92 voluntary repatriations. These actions illustrate a sustained, multi‑agency focus on public order, traffic safety, drug interdiction and immigration control across Italy.
