Armed Motorcycle Theft Incidents in Indonesia Escalate
In Depok, West Java, a resident named Widodo confronted four thieves who attempted to steal a motorbike using a pistol, a screwdriver and a crowbar. Widodo’s shouts caused confusion among the suspects; one brandished a pistol while another threatened with an obeng. The thieves fled on three motorcycles after being chased by other neighbors.
In Cengkareng, West Jakarta, a housewife called Susi was threatened with a silver‑colored pistol as thieves tried to break a motorbike’s lock. She screamed “maling” (thief) and called for help, but only a few neighbours responded. The armed perpetrator lifted the gun again before the duo escaped. Both episodes illustrate a rise in violent, gun‑armed motorbike thefts and community attempts to resist them in Indonesia.
