Armed robberies reported in Boulal and Mbour, Senegal

A series of violent armed robberies occurred in Senegal over the weekend, targeting businesses in Boulal and Mbour.

In Boulal, located in the Linguère region, two masked and heavily armed individuals on a motorcycle attacked a bakery in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026. The assailants used rifles and machetes, assaulting employees and firing shots at the building. They fled with an unspecified amount of cash, a mobile phone, and various personal items. Local gendarmerie have opened an investigation into the incident.

In Mbour, a large group of approximately fifteen masked, armed individuals targeted a money transfer point near the Kaolack intersection during the night of Sunday to Monday. The group reportedly took advantage of heavy rain and a power outage to carry out the heist, which resulted in the theft of an estimated 76 million CFA francs. The operation was preceded by several vehicle thefts, including a Toyota Hilux and a Mitsubishi L200. Due to a power failure, nearby surveillance cameras failed to capture usable footage of the suspects. An investigation is currently underway by the Diamaguène police.
