Armed robberies in Senegal and Guinea
Overview
A series of violent armed robberies has been reported across different regions in West Africa.
In late August 2026, Senegal experienced multiple heists. In Boulal, masked individuals on a motorcycle used rifles and machetes to attack a bakery, stealing cash and personal items. In Mbour, a group of approximately fifteen armed individuals exploited heavy rain and a power outage to rob a money transfer point of an estimated 76 million CFA francs. The group also reportedly stole several vehicles during the operation.
Shortly after, an armed robbery occurred in the Bakel department of Guinea. Masked assailants stormed the facilities of the Chinese mining company Agro Business in the Dioubéba forest. During the attack, gunmen opened fire on employees, leaving three Chinese workers with serious gunshot wounds. The suspects fled with approximately 40 million CFA francs and mobile phones. Local authorities in both Senegal and Guinea have launched investigations into these incidents.
