Munich court upholds late‑night bottle‑beer ban in university district

The Administrative Court of Munich ruled that the city’s ban on selling bottled beer and other alcoholic drinks for take‑away between 22:00 and 05:00 in the university district is lawful. The ban, first issued in 2025 after repeated complaints from residents about night‑time noise, litter, glass shards, and public urination, had been threatened with a €5,000 fine for violations. The court confirmed the restriction but lifted the fine.

The city had briefly rescinded the ban in 2024, but reinstated it after complaints persisted. Several kiosk owners have filed similar lawsuits, with hearings scheduled for September. Munich officials said they will await those rulings before deciding on further measures.
