Armenia and Azerbaijan move ahead with US‑backed TRIPP transport corridor

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with U.S. Senior Advisor Aryeh Lightstone to discuss the implementation of the Transport and Infrastructure Project for Peace (TRIPP). Both sides reaffirmed their interest in launching the project on the ground as soon as possible, emphasizing Armenia’s integration into the international transport and infrastructure system and noting progress since the 2025 Washington Peace Summit and the Armenia‑U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said the United States regularly updates Azerbaijan on TRIPP progress and announced that construction of a 42‑kilometre section of the Zangezur Corridor through Armenian territory is expected to begin in 2026. He also highlighted related railway projects, including the restoration of the line to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the Kars‑Iğdır‑Dilucu railway, which aim to improve connectivity, expand trade and strengthen regional cooperation among Azerbaijan, Armenia and neighboring countries.
