Overview
In July 2026 Armenia announced it would ratify the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation for the Transport and Infrastructure Project for Peace (TRIPP), creating a development company owned 74 % by the United States and 26 % by Armenia. A U.S. engineering firm began surveying the proposed route, signalling a shift from diplomatic rhetoric to technical planning, while Azerbaijan was briefed on the talks and raised concerns over sovereignty and customs control.
By early August, Armenian and U.S. officials met to reaffirm their commitment to launch the project, and Azerbaijan’s foreign minister confirmed that construction of a 42‑kilometre section of the Zangezur Corridor through Armenian territory is slated to start later in 2026. Additional railway projects linking the region were also highlighted, indicating the corridor’s transition from planning to imminent on‑the‑ground implementation.
