Armenia election commission confirms Nikol Pashinyan's party victory

Armenia's Central Election Commission confirmed on June 14 that the Civil Contract party led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan won the snap parliamentary election with 49.7% of the vote, enabling it to form a government. The vote was widely viewed as a referendum on the country's geopolitical orientation and the influence of Russia in the South Caucasus.

Opposition parties supporting Russia, grouped under the Armenia Strong alliance, challenged the results, alleging widespread irregularities and staging a protest outside the commission while it finalized the count. Their leader, billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, remains under house arrest on accusations of plotting to overthrow the government, charges he says are politically motivated.
