Armenia parliamentary election: Nikol Pashinian's Civil Contract wins near‑50% of vote

The June 7‑8 parliamentary election in Armenia resulted in a decisive victory for the ruling Civil Contract party led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian. Official results released by the Central Electoral Commission show the party secured 49.81 % of the vote, translating into 61 of the 105 parliamentary seats. Voter turnout was about 59 %, with roughly 1.5 million of the 2.5 million eligible voters casting ballots.

The main opposition bloc, Strong Armenia, headed by businessman Samvel Karapetyan, obtained roughly 23 % of the vote and 28 seats. Former president Robert Kocharyan’s Armenia Alliance received around 10 % and four seats, while Prosperous Armenia earned about 4 % and five seats. Smaller parties split the remaining votes.

Early exit‑polls had suggested a range of outcomes, with some indicating a 56 % share for Civil Contract and others showing a narrower lead. The election is being viewed as a referendum on Armenia’s pivot toward the European Union and the United States, amidst ongoing tensions with Russia and the peace process with Azerbaijan. Pashinian has reiterated his intent to continue EU‑orientation while maintaining membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.
