Armenia election strengthens pro‑Western peace agenda with Azerbaijan

The recent Armenian parliamentary election was framed by external pressure from Moscow as a choice between Russia and the West, but the central issue for voters was the government's course toward a peace agreement with Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s peace policy, pursued after the 2020 and 2023 wars, received sufficient support to stay in power, though not the overwhelming majority needed to satisfy Baku’s demand for constitutional changes.

Armenia’s society still bears the trauma of the mass exodus from Nagorno‑Karabakh and the historic memory of the 1915 genocide.
