Armenia Interior Minister calls for Anti-Corruption Committee probe

Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan has stated that the Anti-Corruption Committee is the only competent body to investigate and provide an impartial assessment regarding recent incidents involving police officers and investigators.

Sargsyan addressed two specific cases. The first involves allegations of corruption and physical interference involving investigators and police officers. The second concerns allegations of torture by a police officer during an investigation conducted by the Investigative Committee. The Minister emphasized that the Ministry will protect the legal rights and dignity of its officers while ensuring those who violate the law are held accountable. She noted that public debate regarding these matters could damage the reputation of the law enforcement system.

Separately, ‘Electric Networks of Armenia’ has announced planned power outages on August 24 across various locations in Yerevan and several regions, including Aragatsotn, Ararat, and Vayots Dzor, to facilitate scheduled maintenance work.
