Armenian Constitutional Court ruling triggers new phase of broad political resistance

The Constitutional Court of Armenia published its decision on challenges to the recent parliamentary election results. Five opposition forces – the “Strong Armenia” coalition, the “Armenia” coalition, the “Prosperous Armenia” party, the “Armenian National Congress” and the “National‑Democratic Front” – issued a joint statement saying the court’s ruling does not resolve the legitimacy of the newly formed authorities, does not address alleged electoral fraud, and does not end the deep political and legal crisis.

The opposition parties said the decision marks the start of a more organised, institutionalised phase of resistance. They outlined four principal goals: blocking any constitutional amendments they view as foreign‑imposed, defending the Armenian Apostolic Church’s special status, safeguarding the rights and immediate release of political prisoners, and removing the current ruling administration.
