Armenian election officials face dispute over alleged vote irregularities

Armenian opposition figure Arman Abovyan claimed that a “khuzhanutyun” (irregularity) occurred in the recent elections and that the full extent of the issue still needs to be understood. He noted that the Central Electoral Commission is still conducting a recount, after the initial results gave the “BHK” list a provisional margin that later fell by 0.001 percentage points. Abovyan criticized the process, stating that a single recorded vote in the official protocol did not match the physical ballots, and that similar discrepancies appeared in other precincts.

He also mentioned that opposition leader Gagik Tsarrukyan attempted to leave Armenia, footage of which circulated online. When asked whether the BHK would be satisfied if the recount restored its mandate, Abovyan replied negatively and said the opposition’s “Plan B” remains unclear.
