Armenia faces regional tensions, transport upgrades and cultural initiatives

Georgia’s prime minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, highlighted the country’s special ties with its three neighbours—Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey—stressing that deepening relations are essential for the development of regional transport corridors and infrastructure projects such as highways, rail upgrades, the Anaklia port and airport expansions.

Armenian officials discussed a range of domestic issues. Interior Minister Arpine Sarikyan issued a congratulatory message on the 35th anniversary of the country’s seismic‑protection service, noting ongoing modernisation of the seismic monitoring network. The national electricity operator announced planned temporary power cuts on 20 July for maintenance across multiple districts in Yerevan and several provinces. The Red Cross International Committee reported the construction of reinforced shelters and protective walls in border villages of Tavush, Ayrarat, Vayots Dzor and other regions to improve civilian safety after the 2020 war.

In the cultural sphere, the film “The Life of the Pine of Hope” was screened at the Golden Apricot International Film Festival and dedicated to political prisoners Avetik Chalabyan and Karapet Poghosyan. Meanwhile, political commentator Simonyan Hakob criticised the significance of presidential congratulatory messages after the recent Armenian elections, describing them as merely aesthetic gestures.

The cluster also contains broader geopolitical commentary linking Azerbaijan’s actions around Artsakh and Russian military activities, underscoring ongoing regional security concerns.
