Iran plans to expand conflict with US and Israel, WSJ reports

Reports from the Wall Street Journal and intelligence sources indicate that Iranian leadership is preparing for a strategic shift toward expanding conflict with the United States and Israel. Despite a memorandum of understanding signed in June, hardline elements in Tehran have reportedly used the period of relative calm to reorganize security institutions, rebuild missile and drone capabilities, and increase the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) control over the regular military.

Intelligence suggests that Tehran aims to inflict significant damage on its adversaries to deter future massive strikes. Potential escalation tactics include the sabotage of internet cables in the Persian Gulf and inciting political instability within Shia communities in Kuwait and Bahrain. There are also concerns regarding potential ground operations in Kuwait and increased attacks on maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.

This shift comes as the 60-day ceasefire period expires without a permanent peace agreement. Iranian officials reportedly view recent diplomatic efforts as maneuvers to reduce global economic pressure while the US and Israel prepare for larger offensives, rather than genuine steps toward lasting peace.
