Armenian opposition criticizes local election results

Armenian opposition figures have raised concerns regarding the recent local government elections, alleging that the ruling authorities are undermining political life in local communities. Mamikon Aslanyan, a member of the ‘Strong Armenia’ faction, stated that the election results reveal systematic pressure and persecution against local governing bodies.

Aslanyan claimed that in approximately one-third of the communities, there were no competitors, leading to results he described as reminiscent of Soviet-era electoral traditions. He argued that a dangerous perception has emerged where communities led by non-government-aligned candidates risk being deprived of state support and development programs.

Other political commentators noted that the opposition must overcome a cycle of self-destruction and disappointment. They suggested that the current political landscape is a consequence of long-term efforts and intentions rather than accidental outcomes, urging the opposition to move past defensive psychological states to engage in more effective political action.
