Armenian opposition claims election fraud and urges new vote

Opposition parties in Armenia, including the Bargavach Hayastan (BHK) led by Gagik Tsarrukyan, Samvel Karapetyan of the “Strong Armenia” bloc, and activist Avetik Chalabyan, allege massive irregularities in the June 2026 parliamentary elections. They say votes were tampered with, voters intimidated and ballot counts altered, especially in districts 10/51 and 35/65, where the Central Election Commission (CEC) has already invalidated results but has not scheduled a re‑run. The opposition is demanding that a new vote be held within a week and threatens to take the case to the Constitutional Court. Minister of Justice Arpine Sargsyan, however, maintains that the elections were free, fair and transparent. The dispute could trigger further protests and legal battles over the legitimacy of the new parliament.
