Armenian PM Pashinyan says Azerbaijan aide's visit bolsters peace momentum

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan described the June 14 meeting in Dilijan between Armenia’s Security Council secretary Armen Grigoryan and Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev as a significant step in maintaining the momentum of the peace process. The visit, the first working trip by a senior Azerbaijani official to Armenia and the second since the August 2025 peace agreement, came just after Armenia’s parliamentary elections, which gave Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party a majority.

Pashinyan told parliament that the meeting was organised to “manage the threat of war” and to address issues such as detainees and border matters. He argued that opposition forces had attempted to inflame tensions through alleged electoral bribery, but insisted that dialogue with Baku was essential to prevent escalation. The discussion was presented as a confidence‑building measure aimed at preserving regional stability.

Both officials emphasized that there would be no war and that the peace agenda remains a shared commitment.
