Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Party Secures Majority in Parliamentary Vote

Parliamentary elections were held in Armenia, and the ruling Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is on track to win a comfortable majority. Counting over 90 % of the ballots, the party is projected to claim about 64 of the 105 seats in the National Assembly, giving it a strong governing mandate. The main opposition, Strong Armenia, trails with roughly 23 % of the vote, translating to an estimated 29 seats, while the Armenian Alliance is expected to secure around 12 seats.

The election comes after Armenia’s 2023 defeat in the conflict with Azerbaijan over Nagorno‑Karabakh, a development that has strained its relationship with Russia. Recent years have seen Yerevan join the International Criminal Court, suspend participation in the Russian‑led CSTO, and announce a law expressing intent to pursue EU membership. Pashinyan’s victory is likely to reinforce his policy shift toward closer ties with the West and the European Union.
