Iran and Oman seek IMO registration for Strait of Hormuz maritime agreement
Iran and Oman are working toward registering a bilateral agreement regarding maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Kazem Gharib-Abadin, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, stated that the agreement focuses on technical charts and the entry and exit routes for vessels within the strait.
Abadin emphasized that the agreement is strictly bilateral between Iran and Oman, noting that the strait is bordered by only two states. While the two nations have consulted with other countries during the process, no objections to the memorandum have been raised. The official noted that registering the memorandum with the IMO does not guarantee the immediate opening of the strait, as that remains dependent on the fulfillment of obligations by the United States.
Separately in Armenia, the National Security Service (NSS) has declined to provide specific details regarding an incident involving an Azerbaijani serviceman, Nasimi Musaev, who entered the Syunik region near Shaki. The NSS stated that information concerning border protection, counter-intelligence, and operational methods is classified as a state secret. A criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee regarding the incident, which involved the individual entering a residence and injuring a local woman.
