Army Chief Kostidis conducts military inspections in Crete and Gavdos

From August 18 to 20, 2026, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, conducted an official visit to the areas of responsibility for the 5th Airmobile Division ‘V MERARCHIA KRITON’ and the 44th Military Command ‘TALOS’.

The itinerary included inspections of military facilities in Rethymno, Chania, and Heraklion. General Kostidis visited the headquarters of the 1st Paratrooper Battalion in Maleme and received briefings on the operational and training activities of various formations.

The visit concluded on August 20 with a trip to the islet of Gavdos, where the General inspected the Gavdos Observation Post and was briefed on its mission and facilities.
