Arnstadt fire in Rankestraße contained after extensive firefighting effort

A vacant row house on Rankestraße in Arnstadt caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a large-scale response from the local volunteer fire brigade and neighboring units. Around 80 firefighters, supported by seven fire engines, two aerial ladders and additional apparatus, worked through the evening to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent residential buildings. Strong smoke and lingering hot spots required the deployment of a breathing apparatus unit and a prolonged night‑long watch to extinguish smoldering embers. The fire caused an estimated €50,000 in damage but resulted in no injuries. Police secured the area while investigators assess the cause of the fire.

The coordinated effort involved fire stations from Arnstadt, Ichtershausen, Marlishausen, Stadtilm, Dosdorf and Espenfeld, highlighting the region’s capacity to manage a serious incident without casualties.
