Arronches hosts national Portuguese Gastronomy Day celebration

Arronches in Portugal's Alentejo region will host the official 2026 celebration of Portuguese Gastronomy Day on July 27, a day later than the usual July 26. The event, organized by the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Establishments (AHRESP) with support from the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo and the Arronches municipal council, will be held at the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Luz.

The theme, "The Pig: Tradition, Flavor and Future," highlights pork's role in national and Alentejo cuisine. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., chefs, food experts, public‑sector representatives and enthusiasts will gather for panels and tastings. The closing session will be chaired by State Secretary for Tourism, Commerce and Services Pedro Machado. From 4:00 p.m., a live demonstration of pork preparation and a tasting of traditional snacks will follow.

The celebration also marks the 26th anniversary of Portuguese gastronomy's recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the nation.
