Arrowhead Game Studios switches Helldivers 2 to Easy Anti-Cheat
Arrowhead Game Studios has transitioned Helldivers 2 from GameGuard to Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) as part of update 7.2.0. The studio stated that the previous implementation of GameGuard was not as effective as intended and that EAC, an industry standard, will better protect the game and ensure fair play.
The change has caused significant friction within the PC community. Many players utilize unofficial mods to fix persistent gameplay issues, such as hitbox problems and malfunctioning stratagems. Because EAC may block these modifications, the community responded with a wave of negative Steam reviews. Arrowhead clarified that while mods are part of PC gaming DNA, any modifications that negatively impact the experience of other players will no longer function.
Some players have reported technical issues, including crashes and failure to launch the game following the update. Arrowhead has released a support guide recommending that players remove conflicting files, such as ReShade or OptiScaler, and clean residual mod files to resolve these startup errors. A more comprehensive fix is currently under development.
