Arson suspected in fire at the abandoned Oasi plant in Ostia, Italy

A fire broke out around 15:20 at the abandoned Oasi industrial plant on Via Amerigo Vespucci in Ostia, a suburb of Rome. Firefighters from the Ostia squad quickly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas.

No injuries were reported. During extinguishing operations, firefighters found newspapers burning on mattresses and several gas cylinders, which led investigators to suspect a deliberate act. Police arrived to secure the scene and begin an investigation, while medical teams stood by but were not needed. The plant had been seized by Rome’s municipal authority weeks earlier, and the incident prompted a thorough inquiry to determine the cause and any possible motives.

Authorities are reviewing local surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation into the suspected arson.
