Art exhibitions highlight cultural and historical themes in Argentina and Chile

In Argentina, the Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes “Emiliano Guiñazú” – Casa Fader is hosting the closing of Gabriel Fernández’s exhibition, “Sólo estelas en la mar.” The collection features engravings and sculptures that explore cultural traditions and contemporary themes, drawing influence from local masters and New Figuration artists. Curated by Pablo Chiavazza, the exhibition utilizes the concept of the “open work” to engage viewers in interpreting ambiguous meanings.

In Chile, artist Sergio Méndez de la Fuente has launched “Surcos y Grabados: Memorias del Movimiento Campesino.” This series of fifteen woodcuts, funded by Fondart Regional, documents the history of the peasant movement in the Ñuble region. The works depict the social transformations and labor struggles of the 20th century, specifically focusing on the impact of the Agrarian Reform Law and the Peasant Unionization Law. The artist, who participated in peasant mobilizations during the late 1960s, uses his personal history to bring rural social changes to visual prominence.
