Arta, Greece wildfire brought under control after massive firefighting effort

A large wildfire erupted in an agricultural‑forest area between the villages of Agios Spyiridon, Vygla and Stroggili in the regional unit of Arta, Greece. Strong ground and aerial fire‑service units were deployed, and residents of Agios Spyiridon received alerts from the emergency number 112 to remain ready and follow authorities' instructions.

After several hours of intensive fighting, including targeted water‑drop operations by two firefighting helicopters, the blaze was declared under control. Authorities continue to keep ground crews on site to extinguish remaining hotspots and guard against possible re‑ignitions due to strong winds.
