Greece battles forest fires in Epirus, Attica and Corinthia

A large wildfire continues to burn in the Epirus region around Arta, spreading across Vīglas, Agios Spyridonas and Stroggili. Strong winds and dense reed beds hinder the effort. Firefighters have deployed 21 ground engines with 39 personnel, two specialist foot‑patrol teams, four water‑dropping aircraft and two helicopters, supported by police, water‑carriers and heavy machinery. The 112 emergency line has warned residents to stay ready and avoid the nearby poultry farms.

In the Attica suburb of Pallini, a blaze ignited in low vegetation near the Nasiousik estate. Rapid action by 47 firefighters, 20 vehicles, two air‑tankers and two helicopters brought the fire under control within about 45 minutes. The 112 alert also called locals to remain on standby while fire investigators examine the cause.

Further north in the Corinthia regional unit, a forest fire at Spathovouni was declared without an active front after a coordinated response. Eighty‑five firefighters, three foot‑patrol groups, 21 fire trucks, four aircraft and four helicopters continue to monitor the area for possible reignition, aided by drones from the Ikaros team and continuous oversight from the national crisis‑management centre (ESΚEDIK).
