Artemis II crew to receive Stephen Hawking Medal

The Artemis II crew—Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen—will be honored with the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication. The award will be presented on October 17 at STARMUS VIII in Tenerife, recognizing the crew for their efforts to inspire the public through social media, interviews, and educational outreach regarding their lunar mission.

Additionally, the crew is scheduled to participate in a public event at the University of Houston on September 30. During this event, the National Aeronautic Association will recognize the astronauts for breaking the record for the farthest distance traveled in human spaceflight, surpassing the distance set by the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. The Artemis II mission, which launched on April 1 and concluded on April 10, saw the crew travel 252,756 miles from Earth aboard the Orion spacecraft.
