Artemis II crew public engagements and honors

Overview

Members of the Artemis II space mission crew are scheduled to participate in several public events and receive honors following their lunar mission.

Initially, Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialist Jeremy Hansen were slated to attend the Starmus VIII festival in Tenerife and La Palma to share experiences from the mission, which marked humanity’s return to the vicinity of the Moon since the Apollo program. Dr. Garik Israelian, director of Starmus, noted the visit serves as a “bridge between the history of manned spaceflight and its future.”

Subsequently, the full crew—including Mission Specialist Christina Koch—is set to receive the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication at the Starmus VIII festival on October 17. This award recognizes their efforts in public outreach and education. Additionally, the National Aeronautic Association will recognize the astronauts at the University of Houston for breaking the record for the farthest distance traveled in human spaceflight, having surpassed the Apollo 13 mission by traveling 252,756 miles aboard the Orion spacecraft.
