Artemis II mission documented by Discovery Channel

Discovery Channel is releasing a documentary titled ‘Artemis II: To the Moon and Back’ detailing the historic Artemis II mission. The mission, which launched in April 2026 from Kennedy Space Center, saw four astronauts travel over one million kilometers during a nine-day journey around the Moon.

The crew, consisting of Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen, broke a 56-year-old record for the furthest distance humans have traveled from Earth. On April 6, 2026, the mission reached approximately 406,770 kilometers from Earth, surpassing the distance achieved by the Apollo 13 crew during their emergency lunar flyby in 1970.

Notably, Christina Koch became the first woman to travel to the Moon during this mission. The documentary tracks the crew from their initial preparations through their high-speed atmospheric reentry and eventual recovery in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego.
