AI integration reshapes labor markets in Slovakia and Czech Republic

The integration of artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping the labor markets in Central Europe. In Slovakia, research indicates that 78 percent of the population uses AI, with many utilizing chatbots for information, text editing, and even emotional support during moments of loneliness. Slovak Telekom has launched a campaign to address the boundary between technological utility and the need for human connection.

A new class of workers, termed ‘new-collar’, is emerging. These individuals prioritize AI proficiency and soft skills like critical thinking over traditional university degrees. LinkedIn reports that approximately 1.3 million AI-enabled jobs have appeared globally in the last two years. In the Czech Republic, while AI is not yet causing mass layoffs, companies are increasingly using it to increase productivity or to avoid hiring new staff for roles previously filled by humans.

Technological advancements are also challenging traditional corporate hierarchies. Developers have introduced tools like OpenExecutive, which simulates the decision-making processes of top management, suggesting that even executive roles could face future automation. Meanwhile, job seekers in the region are showing increased flexibility, with over 73 percent willing to accept positions outside their original field of expertise to secure employment.
