Artistic and educational initiatives promote social awareness in Mexico and Uruguay

In Xalapa, Veracruz, the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) held an artistic intervention titled ‘Catrina Ambulante XII’ to support families of missing persons. Students from the Faculties of Arts and Dance collaborated with the collective ‘Buscando a Nuestros y Nuestras Desaparecidas Veracruz’ to transform search files into graphic images and printed clothing. The activity aimed to use art to ensure that the issue of disappearances is not ignored, providing a space for mothers to feel heard and supported by the university community.

In Uruguay, the first generation of Pedagogical Support Technicians in Inclusive Education completed their two-year training at the Instituto de Formación Docente de Fray Bentos. To mark the conclusion of their studies, students presented a sensitization project titled ‘In Someone Else’s Shoes.’ The initiative used immersive stations to help the community experience challenges related to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and intellectual disabilities. The program aims to foster empathy and break down barriers for individuals facing disabilities, gender discrimination, or migration-related educational challenges.
