ArtRio and Semana de Arte do Rio highlight Brazilian creative markets

The ArtRio fair has demonstrated a bifurcated market, with high liquidity in contemporary art and a more selective approach toward the secondary market for Brazilian modern art. Sales in the contemporary sector frequently occurred within the US$ 10,000 to US$ 80,000 range, driven by institutional interest and international circulation potential.

The event also served as a significant networking platform for international institutions. Notable attendees included Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, president of Qatar Museums, as well as directors and professionals from the Museo Reina Sofía, Tate, Centre Pompidou, and the Turner Contemporary.

Complementing the art fair, the inaugural Semana de Arte do Rio highlighted Rio de Janeiro’s creative landscape through diverse artistic expressions. The event featured fashion showcases, such as the PIÑA brand’s ‘PIÑA FUNKHALL’ runway show in Lapa, which drew inspiration from Rio’s peripheral ‘estética de cria’ and street culture. Additionally, the international Runway Vision platform was represented through a collaboration between Kenner and creative director Raphael Brunet.
