Artur Gonçalves urges investment in Angola's domestic diamond processing
Artur Gonçalves, president of the Sociedade Mineira do Chitotolo, addressed the 4th edition of Doing Business Angola 2026 in Lisbon. He argued that Angola’s diamond sector must shift from merely exporting raw stones to creating local industrial capacity that adds value and generates sustainable wealth for the country and mining communities.
Gonçalves called on Portuguese businesses to invest in the development of a domestic diamond‑cutting and polishing industry, citing the need to increase production, lower exploration costs and simplify administrative procedures. He emphasized that the true test for the sector is its ability to turn abundant geological resources into tangible economic benefits, creating jobs and strengthening the national economy.
The proposal aligns with Angola’s broader strategy to diversify its economy, develop value‑adding supply chains and retain a larger share of mining revenues within the country.
