Aruba lawmaker criticizes Dutch uncertainty over Landspakket

Eduard Pieters, leader of the PPA faction, has criticized the lack of clarity from the Netherlands regarding the continuity of the Landspakket for Aruba and other islands within the Kingdom. The criticism follows a debate in the Tweede Kamer where the Dutch State Secretary for Kingdom Relations failed to provide a concrete answer regarding what will happen once the current period ends.

Pieters noted that while significant time and energy are being invested in the Rijkswet HOFA, there is uncertainty surrounding the cooperative instrument of the Landspakket, which has been in development for months. He emphasized that Aruba wishes to continue the reform process but maintains that reforms should be a cooperative effort rather than unilateral dictates from the Netherlands. He asserted that both previous and current Aruban governments hold the responsibility to determine which reforms are necessary for the country's development.
