Flash floods and landslides hit Keyi Panyor, Arunachal Pradesh, killing one and missing four

Heavy rainfall on the night of 23‑24 June caused flash floods and massive landslides in the Poosa‑Yachuli area of Keyi Panyor district, Arunachal Pradesh. One person, teacher Nirmala Gupta, was found dead and four residents (including a 13‑year‑old) remain missing; 17‑20 others were injured, three critically.

Roads on the Kimin‑Yachuli connecting route and other highways were blocked by debris, cutting off six districts (Keyi Panyor, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Kamle, Upper Subansiri). The Border Roads Organisation and excavation teams are clearing the routes while the State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force and Indian Air Force have deployed air‑lifted rescue teams and relief supplies. The Arunachal Pradesh governor and chief minister have called for heightened monsoon preparedness and coordinated the emergency air‑support with the Indian Air Force.

Upstream water releases from the Ranganadi (Panyor Lower) hydro project have been ordered, and Assam has been placed on high alert as floodwaters threaten downstream districts, affecting more than 20,000 people in Dhemaji and surrounding areas.
