Arunachal Pradesh flash flood kills two, three still missing

Heavy rain triggered a flash flood on June 24 in the Keyi Panyor district of Arunachal Pradesh, destroying the NEEPCO Colony at Poosa. Two people have been confirmed dead – 30‑year‑old Ballari Marak and a 35‑year‑old woman – while three others remain missing. The flood washed away or severely damaged about 30 houses, destroyed another 10 and partially damaged 14, affecting 128 households. A relief camp on the NEEPCO campus shelters around 60 displaced residents.

Rescue operations, now in their fourth day, involve the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, district police, local volunteers and aerial support from the Indian Air Force and a state civil‑aviation helicopter. Raft missions are being run from the Panyor Lower Hydroelectric Project dam side. Road connectivity is gradually being restored; the Potin‑Kimin and Hoj‑Sagalee routes have reopened for light traffic, while landslides continue to block other roads.

The India Meteorological Department has issued red and orange warnings for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several districts, urging residents to stay alert for further landslides, flash floods and water‑logging.
