Northeast India floods kill at least 10, displace thousands and damage infrastructure

Heavy monsoon rains have caused severe flash floods and landslides across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, killing at least 10 people in Arunachal and leaving several missing. In Arunachal's Keyi Panyor district the death toll rose to three, with two bodies recovered and rescue teams still searching for three missing victims. The districts of East Siang, Lower Siang and Dibang Valley also reported extensive road, bridge and power damage, school closures and ongoing evacuation efforts.

In Assam, the floods have affected more than 22,000 people in six districts, notably Dhemaji where a railway bridge collapsed and an iron bridge was swept away, halting train services. Roughly 16,000 residents in Dhemaji district and surrounding villages have been displaced, with 96 villages submerged and nearly 1,690 hectares of farmland damaged. The Border Roads Organisation restored the critical Kimin‑Potin road within 36 hours, aiding relief operations.

State and central authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force, have deployed rescue teams, boats, dogs and heavy equipment, while the Indian Meteorological Department warns of further heavy rainfall. Relief and rehabilitation measures continue as officials urge residents to avoid travel and stay alert to rising river levels.
