Arunachal Pradesh Floods Hit 3,100 People as State Launches Unified Relief and New Trekking Initiative

Governor K T Parnaik urged a "whole of the state" response to flash floods and landslides that have devastated 14 villages in Lower Siang district, displacing more than 3,100 residents, damaging rice fields, private property and road links. He praised the coordinated efforts of the State Disaster Response Force, district administrations, the Indian Red Cross Society and local volunteers, and called for continued government and civil‑society cooperation in relief, rescue and rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu flagged off "Op Arunoday", a joint military‑civil trekking expedition organized by the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps and the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports. The operation, launched from the Jaswantgarh War Memorial in Tawang, aims to open a new trekking route between Thingbu and Bajrang Peak, promote adventure tourism, enhance connectivity and generate sustainable livelihoods for border‑area communities.
