Arunachal Pradesh police rescue 19 children from trafficking network

Namsai Police have rescued 19 children from various locations across Arunachal Pradesh, including Mechuka, Aalo, Pasighat, Naharlagun, Itanagar, and Longding, as part of an investigation into a suspected child trafficking network. Most of the rescued minors are below eight years of age, with the youngest reported to be approximately three years old.

Authorities arrested three individuals—identified as Gumnya Kochung, Marte Ete, and Neha Gerory—for their alleged roles in facilitating the trafficking. Preliminary investigations suggest that economically vulnerable families were approached with promises of education and care, after which the children were allegedly placed in roles as domestic helpers or workers in hotels and restaurants.

Police reported that monetary transactions ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 per child were allegedly involved. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the supervision of Namsai Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley to analyze digital evidence, call records, and financial transactions to uncover the full extent of the network.
