Arunachal steel bridge over Kumey River opened, restoring border road

The Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) launched a permanent steel bridge at Huri in Kurung Kumey district, Arunachal Pradesh. The project, overseen by BRTF Huri Officer‑Commanding Sandeep Tiwari and coordinated with the district administration, replaces a 66‑metre Bailey hanging bridge that was swept away on 13 July by flash floods in the Kumey River.

Tiwari said, “The successful launching of the steel structure marks a major milestone in restoring full connectivity to the region.” Deputy Commissioner Cheechung Chukhu added that the bridge should be fully completed within the first week of August, after which the Damin‑Huri road will reopen for all vehicular traffic. The new crossing restores a strategically sensitive link near the Line of Actual Control with China, enabling heavy and all‑weather movement for border outposts and local communities.
