Heavy monsoon rains in mid‑July 2026 washed away a 66‑metre Bailey hanging bridge over the Kumey River at Huri village, cutting off civilian traffic and hindering movement of border outposts near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) launched a rapid “mission mode” effort under Project Arunank, deploying the 85 Road Construction Company and the 756 Border Roads Task Force. Within days they rebuilt a 200‑foot Bailey bridge, cleared mudslides, repaired damaged road sections and reinforced approach roads, restoring a critical lifeline for residents and strategic mobility.

Two weeks later, on 31 July, the Border Roads Task Force installed a permanent steel bridge at the same site. The new structure replaces the temporary Bailey bridge, allowing all‑weather, heavy‑vehicle traffic and fully reopening the Damin‑Huri road. Officials highlighted the bridge as a major milestone in restoring full connectivity to the border region and enhancing logistical support for Indian forces along the LAC.

Both actions illustrate a swift, coordinated response to flood damage, transitioning from an emergency Bailey bridge reconstruction to a permanent steel crossing that secures long‑term mobility for civilians and the military in the sensitive Arunachal frontier.
