Arvedi Ast warns high energy costs threaten Terni plant jobs

Arvedi Ast has issued an alarm regarding unsustainable electricity costs, warning that high energy prices threaten production and jobs at its Terni plant in Umbria. The company stated that Italian steel producers are operating at a significant competitive disadvantage compared to European rivals due to much higher energy tariffs.

Data provided by the company shows the total cost per MWh in Italy is 128.54 euros, significantly higher than in Spain (87.58 euros), Germany (85.65 euros), and France (52.69 euros). Arvedi Ast, which employs over 2,550 direct and temporary workers and supports approximately 1,000 additional jobs in the local supply chain, has invested over 500 million euros since 2022 to optimize production and reduce environmental impact.

In response to these warnings, the Umbria Region has called for an urgent meeting with the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) to accelerate the program agreement. Regional officials emphasized the need to address these cost disparities to protect the industrial and employment future of the Terni site.
