As Pontes: CIG union demands new industrial plan and land from Endesa

The CIG-Ferrol union is calling for a new reindustrialization plan for As Pontes, similar to the framework established between 1997 and 2012. The union is specifically requesting that Endesa hand over the land from the thermal power plant, which is currently undergoing decommissioning following the demolition of its four cooling towers last month.

CIG argues it is “inacceptable” that the municipality lacks available industrial land for new projects while large areas of infrastructure linked to the electric company remain unused or in the process of being dismantled. The union maintains that Endesa holds an “evident responsibility” toward the territory’s reindustrialization following the plant's closure.

Additionally, the union addressed the loss of activity at companies such as Einsa and Galcore, demanding that any new projects implemented at these sites must commit to maintaining and recovering local employment. CIG has also called on the Xunta to provide full transparency regarding planned projects for Einsa facilities, public investments, and employment guarantees.
