Asaduddin Owaisi urges Telangana government to issue PRCs for voters

AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi met Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, demanding that the state government issue Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) or Family Register Certificates to eligible electors during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Owaisi cited Article 162 of the Constitution and pointed to Karnataka’s practice of issuing PRCs under the Karnataka Sakala Services Act. He highlighted Telangana’s existing databases – the Samagra Kutumba Survey, the Socio‑Economic & Caste Surveys of 2024‑25, the BHU Bharati Act records, the Food Security Card database, municipal property‑tax records, and school and board records – as tools to verify residency and reduce hardship for poor voters, minorities, BCs, SCs and STs.

He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to adopt a similar mechanism, stating that it would help thousands of economically disadvantaged citizens avoid exclusion from the final SIR voter list.
